Objetivos / Course Goals and Learning Outcomes for K-5

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to demonstrate an ability to:

- Greet people and introduce themselves in Spanish
- Form simple sentences to describe people and places.
- Identify cognates and "false friends" in a text.
- Use context clues to determine the meaning of new words and unfamiliar phrases.
- Use a bilingual dictionary
- Appropriately use the following grammatical structures:

    - Form Interrogative, affirmative and negative sentences
    - Identify parts of speech in Spanish
    - Identify and use personal and possessive pronouns
    - Understand and use verb tenses: the imperative, gerund and simple present and past tense
    - Understand the different uses of verbs ser and estar
    - Understand and use reflexive verbs
    - Understand and identify noun-adjective agreement
    - Understand the difference between definite and indefinite articles
    - Understand the use of gender and number

- Recognize and use vocabulary from the following categories:

Grading Categories:

50% Participation

30% Class work/Homework/Projects

20% Quizzes/Tests/Assessments

Targeted Assessments:

One quiz per month, one test per quarter and a final exam:  STAMP Se4

Curriculum Integration: One integrated unit (Spanish-Social Studies) and one project per semester.

Homework: Students are expected to study for at least 10 minutes every day (Monday through Friday) the vocabulary and structures learned in class.
Please complete the "No homework slip/Falta la tarea" if you forgot to turn in your homework.

Attendance:

Attendance is an important part of class participation; excessive absences may affect a student's grade. If a student is unexpectedly absent, it is the student's responsibility to speak with me upon returning to school about making up missed work.

Academic Integrity

Honesty and strength of character are expected of every student at James Ward School. Students must complete their assignments individually and with judicious use of permitted resources.
